Hello kmad... I totally understand being anxious about your upcoming TURBT. Sorry you are having neck issues as well which I am assuming why they did the MRI. Lymph nodes in the neck can be swollen with a cold or sinus infection, or injury to that area. Our mind wants to immediately jump to the worst thing usually.

Have you gotten any kind of report back from your doctor about this? Did they do any further blood work? If not, that will be part of your preop tests before your surgery next week.

I'm sorry I cannot be more helpful. You are with an understanding group of people here, so post anything that is on your mind. We don't have all the answers but sometimes it helps just to get it out of your head into words. Our heads get pretty jumbled up at times like this... I do hope you are feeling better and in less pain now.

Best wishes... Catherine

Hello kmad and welcome to the forum... First I just want to say bravo to you for taking charge of your care and going to a hospital where you feel your needs will be better addressed. News like this is a punch in the gut that leaves you barely able to breathe.

The pain you experienced that took you to the ER may/may not have been related to your bladder, but it might be a blessing in disguise if in the course of looking for its source, a developing bladder tumor was found. At 1.5 cm, that is still fairly small (mine was 1.6 cm which is about 2/3 inch) and with any type of tumor, the earlier found and treated, the better. They don't turn out to be benign very often, but sometimes it does happen. The pathology report after your TURBT will determine whether it is a bladder cancer or not. Also keep in mind, even if it is, these days bladder cancer is very treatable. You will find lots of posts in the forum that attest to that.

As far as the procedure, it is usually done outpatient unless there are compelling reasons to keep you overnight. Given the distance you will be traveling, it may depend on if/when they want to recheck you. I went back the next morning to my local uro, and I have seen people here say they went back after a "few" days. Maybe a call to their office and ask about post-TURBT procedures they have in place would ease your worry just a bit.

Did you see a urologist at any point during this? If your pain continues or increases, try to see a local uro, or your primary care physician in case it is not your bladder causing it. You shouldn't have to be in pain for the next 10 days.

We are here to help as much as we can, especially when people like yourself are first diagnosed. Most of us have been right where you are and know how scared and confused it leaves you. Please post any other questions you have leading up to your TURBT on the 16th.

Best wishes... Catherine

check with the hospital and the doctor who is going to do it as to whether they will keep you over night. Sounds like it may be an over night stay at least. Hope all turns out good for you. They are doing wonders with this stuff. Talk to the doctor about pain killers too. Definitely take some Tylenol.

Hello, I am a 48 year old female. Non-smoker, non-drinker, non-drug user. On May 28 2013 I went to the ER with what I thought was appendicitis. 5 shots of morphine, 1 xray and 1 ct scan later I went home with no explanation . I was told to take zantac if the pain returns. The following day I received a call from the ER doc that they missed something. I have a bladder tumor. A 1.5 cm filling defect within the posterior aspect of the bladder on the left. There are a few small nodes in the inquinal area. Well, after that crappy service I made an appt. at the University of Michigan Medical Center. A 7 hour ride from here. Having a TURB procedure done June 19th. I'm not feeling good about this tumor. From everything i've read. There are no benign tumors?? Is there an overnight stay with this procedure? I'm lost right now. In some bad pain.
